The Pearl is about a poor family that lived on the Baja of Mexico. They lived near the beach in a brush house. This family has three members, they are Kino(husband), Juana(wife), and Coyotito(baby). Kino had a brother that lived near him, Juan Thomas was his name and his wife Apolonia who described as a fat lady in the story. The town that they lived in was very small, it was so small that when something happened everyone knew in the town.

One morning Kino had awaked early, he saw Coyotito the baby sleeping on a box which was the baby's bed at the time. Kino and Juana sleep on a mat on the floor. After Kino fed his animals, he ate his corn cake and drunk it -with pulque(a Mexican drink made out of milk) Kino didn't talk to Juana very often. In this town people did over and over the same thing everyday, the next day would come and they would do the same thing over and over again. But one day something changed in the family. As Coyotito was taking a nap Kino saw a scorpion crawling towards the baby's box. Kino tried to stop it from going in the baby's box, but it was too late when he realize that Coyotito had been bitten by the scorpion. Juana heard the cry from the baby, she rapidly rushed over to Coyotito's box to see what had happened to him. Juana was desperate when she saw that Coyotito had gotten bitten by a scorpion. The consequences were dangerous, it is so dangerous that if enough poison attack the baby he could die. People all over crowded the door to the entrance to Kino brush house. Juana then asked for the doctor, they knew that the doctor was not going to come because the doctor we can say that he only take care of rich people. The next day Kino when to look for the pearl as he always did. The pearl would bring peace and happiness to his family. Kino was lucky because he found what he always had been looking for the great and shiny pearl. Kino hopes were to send Coyotito to school and learn what Kino didn't n when was a little kid, and Kino thought of getting married with Juana and will need new clothing to wear. After Kino found the pearl everybody was interested in him, because the pearl meant a big fortune. The doctor didn't want to come to Kino brush house, but after he found the pearl even the doctor came to cure Coyotito. Kino wanted to sell the pearl. He was going to sell it, he took both Juana and Coyotito with him. He went to the dealer to sell the pearl, but the dealer tried to fool kino by telling him that the pearl was only worth 1,000 to 1,500 pesos(Mexican word for dollars). Kino knowing that the pearl was worth more than that offer that the dealer made him, Kino took his pearl and left. Kino then decided that the next day he was going to go to the city and sell it. That night Kinno killed a man who tried to steel the pearl form him. Juana helped Kino get up from the floor and took the man's body into their brush house. They then burned the brush house and left the dead body inside. Kino, Juana and Coyotito took them to his brother house Juan Thomas to get help. Kino, knowing that his brother couldn't say no to him, asked him to let them sleep over and for Juan Thomas to move with him to the city. The next day they headed north until they found a place to stay. They then decided to return home were they belong, Kino threw the pearl back into the water as he was going back home because the pearl was not bringing them any happiness to their lives.

I like this story because it made me learn what poor poor people like Kino would do for money or happiness. This also made me realize that if I was a poor person I would want to find a pearl to sell it. I would rather not find the pearl because it brought a lot o problems to kino and I would not want those problems to happen to me because of money.
